Despite inherently complex capabilities airs utilises a familiar, user friendly windows style interface which encourages employees to participate in the company's safety program.
Many of the screen labels are user changeable to reflect a company's preferred terminology, this also provides flexibility for the program to be used to for general reporting in addition to capturing safety related information.
The program has been designed to be region specific. "Smart Reports" can be adapted to a specific geographic area eg. North America - NTSB & FAA; Australia - ATSB and CASA.
Information Capture
Event/Occurrence summary is captured through a single input screen which makes optimum use of drop down menus and point and click technology. Incident categories are selected with the assistance of menu driven prompts. On submission reports are distributed via email to allocated recipients according to categorisation. Once submitted the author can print a copy for their reference and if necessary, re-enter the system at any time to make editorial corrections.
Additional event/occurrence specific information is captured through a series of "Smart Reports" covering:
-
ATSB - ASIR & Birdstrike
-
CASA - Major Defect Report
-
SPILL - EPA
-
DOTARS - Security
-
FLIGHT DETAILS - Dangerous Goods, Cabin, TCAS/ACAS, EGPWS/TAWS, ATC, loading and Elec Int.
Information Management
airs administration section is the information nexus. Through this section information is gathered and distributed as required. Report recipients enter their comments and collaborate "on line", the safety manager links associated reports, saves associated text and graphic files, initiates replies to report authors, actions mandatory reports to CASA/ATSB/DOTARS, formulates and tracks corrective and preventative actions.
Integrated within this section are the risk, priority causal and cost sub sections along with an investigation module through which investigation activities are logged.
Risk Management
Risk Management is a fundamental element of a proactive safety management system. Through a sub menu within the airs administration and audit sections, safety managers are able to conduct a risk assessment on all reported events, occurrences. hazards and audit findings.
This is achieved through the use of a simple 5 x 5 matrix which assigns a risk factor based on a combination of severity versus probability.
This information can be used to prioritise investigation resources and assess the health of a company's safety program.
Audit Management
As industries move towards total quality assurance, auditing becomes a vital tool in assessing the success or otherwise of a company's systems and procedures.
airs audit section provides safety and quality managers with the tools to proactively manage a company's internal and external audit commitments. The audit section includes a checklist generator which can be used to produce customised audit checklists for later be use during audits, either in hard copy or electronically. Alternatively the inbuilt IOSA checklists can be used as the foundation for a company's internal audit program.Findings and observations can be tracked along with associated corrective and preventative actions.
Cost Management
Many companies are unaware of the true costs associated with an incident or accident. The "big ticket" items such as structural repair are obvious, however it is the incidentals which often amount to a considerable sum. Using the cost menu in airs administration section, department managers can record all costs associated with an incident. This can subsequently be used as a performance indicator or to provide cost benefit analysis to the company's stakeholders.
Report Management
The production of timely reports is an essential facet of a proactive safety management system.
Using the airs report menu safety managers can efficiently produce almost unlimited reports. The report menu contains a number of standard text and graphical reports which can be filtered by the user. Alternatively a unique report may be constructed using the inbuilt SQL query maker or word search utility.
Security Management
System security is an essential component of any safety management system. airs incorporates a comprehensive security section which simply yet effectively controls a users ability to view or manipulate data. A log file, monitoring user's activity is also incorporated.
The application also accepts "confidential" reports which guarantee anonymity to all but the system administrator/safety manager.
Report data is encrypted to ensure database integrity, additionally the database is password protected.
Setup
System setup is efficiently achieved through the restricted access airs setup module which controls:
- Event categories
- Email setup
- Company profile
- Employee, aircraft and port information
- Network controls
- Display and printing controls
Support & Training
International Safety Systems' aim is that all users achieve the maximum benefit from airs, accordingly the licence fee includes a comprehensive on site installation and training package.
